An Engineering Marvel
The amazing machine.
The engineering behind it is nothing short of incredible. There has never been anything like it. I doubt that there ever will.
I’m reading up on some anatomy of the human body-a little light reading before bed. Just kidding about the last part.
As I read through this book though, I can’t help but be amazed at what I’m discovering. Oh, I’ve seen it on t.v., or read in a book a lot of this information before. Seeing it all put together, in a way that really connects the dots, is a mind-blower.
For instance, the communication system that is the brain. In and of itself the brain is an amazing engineering marvel. It communicates with the rest of the body through the nervous system.
From the brain, through the spinal cod, to the nerves, and down to the neurons. The neurons, themselves, are impressive. They speak with other neurons in other cells.
The skeleton serves two purposes. First is to act as a frame. Without the frame, the body would collapse in on itself. Our bones also act as levers, another engineering feat, in my opinion. The way that the bones are connected by the joints, a self-lubricating joint at that. We can’t build anything that even comes close to the reliability over a lifetime.
Muscle and tendon connect the levers, which move about like a crane erecting a building. The muscle uses very fine contractions, some pushing while others pull, in order to use just enough force to do the job.
This is a very light explanation of some of the things that I find fascinating about the human body, or any body for that matter. The design of a leopard and it’s function as a runner. How a bird is able to create enough lift to soar through the skies.
Perhaps it’s the engineer in me, but as I look, I can’t help but be amazed at the perfection that is the engineering of the human body.

I haven’t thought about it in years, but back in college when I was taking biology, etc. I came to the same conclusions. The human body is truly an amazing piece of engineering.

That picture at the top scares me.

I’m new here but I had to chime in. While I agree that the human body, as well as other animals on earth, are amazing, I’m not sure that I would refer to engineering. Are you suggesting that we are created rather than a step in the evolutionary ladder?

@Tom – Thanks
@Julie – Sorry about that. The person that took the picture had a humorous story about their dog barking at it.
@Carol – Welcome to PhitZone. I absolutely believe in a Creator. The “engineering” part of it is one of the things that leads me to that conclusion.

It is definitely a really interesting machine. It is so complicated in some aspects that it just blows my mind that that is what i function on every day!

Yes, exactly. As I read through this manual, I’m in awe, uttering, “Wow!”.
